Music of the Spanish Renaissance

Powerful music, straight and proud. Long melodic lines develop the playing of scales and the the melody evolves through the complementary playing of both hands. During this time, the "grandmother" of our chromatic harp was in its first bloom. One composition is written originally for the "harpa a dos Ordenes", the other two for the vihuela, the early Spanish guitar.

Eric Satie, Three Gnossiennes

Eric Satie, Three Gnossiennes

Music full of peace, like a silent stretching sea. Satie created music, which in the greatest simplicity carries an infinite depth in itself. In the adaption for the Chromatic Harp from the original piano scores only some of the deep bass notes have been transposed up one octave. The pieces are easy to play because of the frequently recurring, simple harmonies and the quiet pace.

Eric Satie, Three Gymnopèdies

Harmonically more sophisticated and therefore more difficult to play than the Gnossiennes. The Gymnopédies were ritual dances in ancient Crete. They spring from Satie's interest in ancient mysticism.
