Last Rose of Summer (hm17) Back

The legacy of the old harpers ...

... lives on in these wonderful melodies.
Just as the bards once sang the exploits of the old legendary Irish kings, so the songs of the nineteenth century tell of the rebellions of the Irish people against the British occupiers. But something new has been added: not only heroes and kings are mentioned, but the songs give expression to the feelings of farmers and herdsmen, their love and their painful goodbyes.
I have arranged these ballads so that they are in good singable pitches. The bass hand plays accompaniment patterns familiar from the "Blue Diamonds", and the melody hand enriches the melodic line with arpeggios which can also be omitted to simplify.
On the last page there is a collection of pure accompaniment patterns with which the harp can accompany the singing, as we know it from the guitar. The chord letters are found in the harp notes. The solo version can then be heard as an introduction, conclusion and interlude and the vocals are accompanied by easier fingering patterns.  Enjoy this wonderful music!

Play me a Tune! old Irish style (hm7ma)

The atmosphere of an evening in the Irish pub pervades this volume. Jigs and Reels in the fragrance of the turf fire recall the wild dances of the Celtic past.
Although these tunes are quite a challenge to any harp player, the old style of playing meets this challenge.  It is quite possible that many of these tunes originated from the tradition of the Irish harpers. Keys: C, G, D

Eric Satie, Three Gnossiennes

Eric Satie, Three Gnossiennes

Music full of peace, like a silent stretching sea. Satie created music, which in the greatest simplicity carries an infinite depth in itself. In the adaption for the Chromatic Harp from the original piano scores only some of the deep bass notes have been transposed up one octave. The pieces are easy to play because of the frequently recurring, simple harmonies and the quiet pace.
