Carolan's Concierto (hm5) Back

Turlough O’Carolan    (1670 - 1738)

Many famous composers were his contemporaries: Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, Corelli, Vivaldi - and the music style of his time was marked by baroque vitality. Italy set the tone in Europe and traveling virtuoso violinists, whose sparkling cascades of sound could even be heard up in remote Ireland,  influenced the musical life in a decisive way. Carolan was delighted with the ease of Italian music and combined it brilliantly with ornate Celtic melodies.
As one of the last great Irish harpers, he created music that has now become the Irish folk music, which is heard in concert halls as well as in small pubs on the west coast of Ireland. The ancient tradition of the Celtic bards lives on and the sound of the harp strings enchants us today. It's the magic of a time when music was still sacred and opened inner worlds to people.

Eric Satie, Three Gnossiennes

Music full of peace, like a silent stretching sea. Satie created music, which in the greatest simplicity carries an infinite depth in itself. In the adaption for the Chromatic Harp from the original piano scores only some of the deep bass notes have been transposed up one octave. The pieces are easy to play because of the frequently recurring, simple harmonies and the quiet pace.

Black Rose Bud, old Irish style (hm12ma)

Harp Music from the Bunting collection. Arranged in the old Irish style, like the old harpers probably played. The two hands share the melody and play mostly alternately instead of playing simultaneously. Ideal for starters, if the simultaneous playing of melody and accompaniment still presents difficulties, as well as for small harps and metal strings. Harp Tuning: G, D
