Sounds of the sea and sun, Volume 1

Compositions by Miguel Llobet, Francisco Tárrega and Enric Granados

El Testament de N'Amelia is a Spanish folk song, which was set for classical Spanish guitar by Miguel Llobet. Gentle, almost wistful harmonies and the repetition of the refrain in flageolet characterize this composition. Llobet was the most virtuosic student of Francisco Tárrega, the founder of modern classical guitar technique.

Capricho árabe is a remembrance of the days when the Moors influenced Spain. Great buildings like the richly ornamented Alhambra and the masterful play of light and water, warmth and coolness are the inner model of this wonderful music of the great master of Spanish guitar, Francisco Tárrega.

In Danza Oriental Granados also creates an atmosphere influenced by Arabic elements.  Granados was a celebrated and widely traveled pianist, known for his happy and carefree nature. The melodies of the "Oriental" hover above the quiet bass line, all passion is transfigured into ideal beauty.

Adelita and Marieta are two mazurkas with almost Slavic melodies. They are reminiscent of Chopin and full of tenderness, though sometimes a bit short-tempered. Two Miniatures, composed by the "Sarasate of the guitar", as Tárrega was called in his time.
